Riding

The club rides together at least once a week and more when daylight hours permit weekday evening rides in the summer. Club rides provide a fun and motivating environment for participants to train. Most rides have occasional hot spots where participants put the hammer down, take a flyer, etc. to engage in a little friendly competition. While often this means stringing the group out, we sit up and regroup after all hot spots to ensure that the ride returns home with the full complement of those who started.

While we make a sincere effort to wait for stragglers and stop for the occasional mechanical, we do ask in return that each individual takes responsibility him/herself by ensuring that their equipment and their fitness is up to the task. You won't get a lot of sympathy if you show up to a ride with bald tires after a 6-month "training program" consisting of sitting in your armchair 24-7 doing 12-ounce curls and eating nothing but pizza.

Racing

Some members of Lanterne Rouge choose to compete in local amature bicycle races. While racing is not a requirement for membership, we encourage members to try racing. Most members have tried turning the pedals in anger at some time, and several have gotten hooked. The club supports these riders in spirit. None of the club's finances are used to pay for entry fees and other expenses associated with bike racing. Lanterne Rouge is also member of USA Cycling.
